  • STRANGELY, I LEARN MUCH IN MOMENTS OF DISTRACTION.

"So she was considering, in her own mind (as well as she could, for the hot day made her feel very sleepy and stupid), whether the pleasure of making a daisy-chain would be worth the trouble of getting up and picking the daisies, when suddenly a White Rabbit with pink eyes ran close by her."
  • Slight shiftings

"I wonder if I've been changed in the night? Let me think. Was I the same when I got up this morning? I almost think I can remember feeling a little different. But if I'm not the same, the next question is 'Who in the world am I?' Ah, that's the great puzzle!"

A New Dictionary

BANANA-SMILE (n.): worn by an African woman who thought she was barren—-but who had a baby, in the end. As related by The Very Reverend Archbishop Orambi.

FREAK-I-LY (adv.): if any word deserves to be an adverb, its this one. Say it 20 times fast.

SCRUMBLY: (adj.): Kate is placidly sleeping under the warm nestly covers. Maggie sneaks over, lunges in,  and attacks her in a big bear hug. Kate wakes up, startled; but is not unhappy. She instead feels a surreal sense of vacillating between the land of the living and the other place. She kind of feels like her face is disentegrating. But she is content. Maggie informs Kate that this means she is SCRUMBLY.

GLUTEAL CLEFT (n): the real reason I asked Colin to Kilter.

ESSENTIALLY (adv.): Just add an argument. This word automatically makes you sound smarter and more “with it” than you really are. Example:

The cyst is dangeous. vs. The cyst is, essentially, dangerous.

and, in conversation:

“Squanto, is it impossible to grow corn in this rocky Massachusetts soil?”

“No, not essentially.”

NEW YORK CITY (n):

“Where any other irresponsible, unmotivated dropout goes. Like tonight.”

 NIMBLE (adj):

Jonathan Cate, tiptoe-ing in breeches.
